A Celebration In Honour of All Mothers. The celebration of MOTHER'S DAY is maybe the oldest and first of all events. It goes back as long as there are mothers. Happy Mother's Day.Greeks paid tribute to mothers as goddesses. It was a spring event to celebrate birth and fertility to honor Mother Gaea. Later it changed to Honor her daughter Rhea. The Celtic Pagans marked the coming of spring with a fertility celebration linking their goddess Brigid together with the first milk of the ewes. The very first known celebrations in honour of mothers were held in ancient Greece during the spring. Greeks paid tribute to Rhea, The Mother of the Gods. She was the titan of "Earth and Fertility", both sister and wife to Cronus. However Cronus, after having been told that he would be dethroned by his own son, swallowed his own offspring at birth. Rhea tricked Cronus by saving her son Zeuss and giving Cronus a rock to swallow instead. "...And since both earth (Gaia) and sky (Uranus) foretold him (Chronos) that he would be dethroned by his own son, he used to swallow his offspring at birth... enraged at this, Rhea repaired to Crete, when she was big with Zeus, and brought him forth in a cave of Dicte. She gave him to the Curetes and to the Nymphs... to nurse. So these Nymphs fed the child on the milk of Amalthea (the Goat)... but Rhea wrapped a stone in swaddling clothes and gave it to Chronos to swallow..." (Apollodorus, Bibliotheca I.I.5-7). When Zeus grew up he forced his father to disgorge his five siblings: Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera. He also revolted against Cronus and the other Titans, defeating and banishing them to the underworld, Tartarus. Cronus himself managed to escape to Italy, where he ruled as Saturn. The period of his rule was said to be the "Golden Age" on earth, honoured by the "Saturnia Feast" or Cronia. After overthrowing his father Zeus drew lots with his brothers Poseidon and Hades. Zeus won the draw and became the supreme ruler of all the Gods and formed the Olympians. The Olympians are a group of 12 gods. They are named after their dwelling place Mount Olympus and all are related in some way. Zeus is the lord of the sky, the rain god. His weapon is a thunderbolt, which he hurls at those who displease him. He is married to Hera,but, is equally famous for his many affairs. He is known to punish those who lie or break oaths. There are several reports of
contact with Canada before Christopher Columbus from Europe and Asia.
THe Viking contacts are best known to us. Leif Erickson's expedition at
1000 DC and the settlement ofd Vikings in L'Anse aux Meadow is a
registred contact. This new place they were settled on is known as
Vinland.

small colonies joined together as the Dominion of Canada.  Today 140 years later, Canada is federation of 10 provinces and three
territories, stretching to the coasts of three oceans the Atlantic, Pacific and

Iroquois Confederacy Native American Indian First Nation Dances and

Like USA so in Canada most of
the people are Europeans but in Canada today you will find people from
all countries.Canadians and Americans enjoy a
friendly relationship based on geographic proximity, their shared
status as ex-colonies of Britain, and a longtime economic partnership.
The Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Ontario and Québec are
favorite weekend destinations for Americans in the Northern states.
Whether they have ancestors from the East, the West, or the
South, as Canadians they always look to the North for the true definition of the country.
